Location — Местоположение

The Republic of Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe and borders on Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine. The capital is the city of Minsk. Our country is made up of six regions called “oblast” with the major cities of Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Mogilev and Vitebsk.

Республика Беларусь расположена в центре Европы и граничит с Польшей, Литвой, Латвией, Россией и Украиной. Столица – город Минск. Наша страна состоит из шести регионов, называемых «областями», в которые входят крупные города Минск, Брест, Гродно, Гомель, Могилев и Витебск.

Languages — Языки

The Republic of Belarus has become the home country for people of different nations. However, only two main languages are spoken on its territory. They are Russian and Belarusian. 

Республика Беларусь стала родиной для людей разных национальностей. Однако на его территории говорят только на двух основных языках. Это русский и белорусский языки.

National symbols — Национальные символы

Belarus has its own national symbols. They include our national flag which is a horizontal bicolour of red over green, with a red and white vertical ornament on the left. As far as I know, the red colour stands for the sun, blood ties and brotherhood. The green colour is associated with Mother Nature and symbolises growth and well-being. The white colour means freedom, while the ornament represents our ancient culture and unity.

The other national symbols are the national emblem with a ribbon in the colours of the national flag, a map of Belarus, ears of wheat and a red star on it, and our national anthem.

I can also name some unofficial symbols of our country. They are the Cross of Saint Euphrosyne, a spiritual symbol of Belarus, the bison, which inhabits Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the stork and the cornflower.

У Беларуси есть свои национальные символы. В их число входит наш национальный флаг, состоящий из двух горизонтальных полосок — красная полоса поверх зеленой с красно-белым вертикальным орнаментом слева. Насколько я знаю, красный цвет символизирует солнце, кровные узы и братство. Зеленый цвет ассоциируется с Матерью-природой и символизирует рост и благополучие. Белый цвет означает свободу, а орнамент представляет нашу древнюю культуру и единство.

Другими национальными символами являются государственный герб с лентой цветов государственного флага, картой Беларуси, колосьями пшеницы и красной звездой на нем, а также наш государственный гимн.

Могу также назвать некоторые неофициальные символы нашей страны. Это крест святой Евфросинии Полоцкой, духовный символ Беларуси, зубр, населяющий Беловежскую пущу, аист и василек.

 

Belarus is famous for its beautiful nature. Our people are proud of their country and its beauty.

Беларусь славится своей красивой природой. Наш народ гордится своей страной и ее красотой.
